in the united states, an all points bulletin has been issued to find the lost word-accountability. the most recent example of its absence from a texas school district.
it is reported that with only five out of thirty three students meeting the basic academic requirements to graduate, a school district postponed their high school graduation. according to the news report “an earlier audit conducted by the marlin independent school district (isd) of the class of 2023 found that the overwhelming majority either had too many absences, did not fully complete a course, or failed a required course.” nypost.com
from the audit, it is apparent that the school district, the school leadership, the teachers, the students and the parents are all contributed to this epic humiliation. many fingers reportedly have been pointing; students complained about teacher absenteeism, about the administration not timely providing credit information, and one about the school not timely providing an online class. the school administration aimed their digit at parents for whom they warned about the problem. npr
this failure, however, should not be a surprise as the district’s admittedly suffered from a decade of unsatisfactory performance.
sadly, the graduation postponement -aka cover up to this problem- punishes the few accountable children, the five eligible for graduation. their timely and deserved graduation has been postponed by the inept school district and their classmates’ morbid academic prowess. the delay reportedly caused a disruption with respect to some of the graduates’ families’ travel plans for the event.
in essence, what is the postponement going to do? are these children somehow going to learn something-in a short time- that they haven’t learned? should teachers who have failed these students get paid for this make up time? should the principal and others administrators responsible this disaster still have a job? should the superintendent resign? should the state of texas officials in charge of education seize control of a district? who should be held accountable when a school had a 15 percent graduation rate which clearly is a fail by any standards.
like everything in the united states, individuals will likely never be held accountable. the only people truly punished are the children-and their parents and families-who timely matriculated and were denied their earned graduation.
this episode represents the new america where responsible people are to be punished. given the socialist ideology ever so present, responsible people are always the oppressors. the parents who made their kids attend school and do their homework are the oppressors. the children who showed up to class, did their assignments, passed their classes, and earned the right to graduate are the oppressors. of course, the school district and the children not passing are the oppressed. their fingers serve as victim cards.
this tale is one of many that raise the question as to “whether there are enough people in america that are willing to stand up and tell these people enough?” people who are accountable are not going to be punished. the five great students from marlin successfully navigated through a statistically incompetent high school to earn their diploma certainly made a great accomplishment worthy of a prompt celebration by their families and friends.
perhaps, the most important lesson in this debacle is for the students who did not graduate. this is the big “wake up” call for your life. you should remember this moment’s pain and and humiliation. this is the feeling that one gets when they do not take accountability for their life. chronic absenteeism and failure to complete work will destroy your life. accountability must become a practiced habi; hold yourself accountable from this date forward! make commitments and follow through with them. commit to having perfect attendance. commit to completing your work assignments. commit to being a better you.
be well!!
