according to the national institute of health, “the brain finishes developing and maturing in the mid-to-late 20s. the part of the brain behind the forehead, called the prefrontal cortex, is one of the last parts to mature. this area is responsible for skills like planning, prioritizing, and making good decisions.”
in the torah, ages have been assigned to tasks. counting on for military service was age 20. in the portion, behaalotecha, the master of the universe assigns an age requirement. “the lord spoke to moses saying: this is [the rule] concerning the Levites: from the age of twenty five years and upwards, he shall enter the service to work in the tent of meeting.” number 8:23-24. the tent of meeting was the special place where moses and god met and spoke.
impliedly, the torah recognized the mid-twenties as an important age. did the creator of the universe recognize this fact due to humans being were his creation, or, did the he, through his observation of humanity over thousands and thousands of years come to appreciate that fact? in other words, did the master of the universe know the science of brain development or was this an observational based conclusion?
if one was to assert that humans wrote the torah, then one can argue that while most humans are not scientifically astute, even in ancient times, observations made are capable of being confirmed by science. science can serve to fill in the gaps when it comes to beliefs. in this instance, those crafting the torah appreciated when humans matured. they understood what science would later detail.
while observations serve as a powerful component of science, corrupted science takes science in other directions. frequently, the news reports of academic studies either based upon falsified data or where the results cannot be produced. further, we are aware that the academic world has become increasing intolerant of dissenting voices. we see an academic world skewing research and conclusions based upon financial considerations. scientists, like lawyers, are now viewed as hired guns. they serve agendas and no longer the truth.
over the years, medicine, something that i am peripherally associated with, has engaged is many dubious practices. i watched questionable medical procedures and testing be advanced in the name of profit. i have seen a period in which my clients were handed strong pain medications in candy-like fashion; every day became halloween. today, we are seeing the same with the concept of gender medical treatment.
with this “so-called” gender medical treatment, a science driven concept, humanity is once again given the opportunity to make observation. as much as humans observe natural phenomena and come to some discernable conclusion, humans can observe the unnatural and make observations and reach conclusions. if we are a society that truly honors science, we must make critical observations and conclusions concerning scientific results. these observational conclusions can them be scientifically confirmed.
as such, there are many questions emerging from this “so called” field of gender medicine. for instance, what are the long term emotional effects of altering a brain that has not been fully developed? what is the long term emotional effects of taking away one’s ability to reproduce? does extensive medical surgeries and a lifetime requirement of being on hormones truly remediate the mental health matters in the patient? is there some level of anti-social behavior created or amplified by some of the treatment?
currently, society is being exposed to increasingly more information concerning this “so called” medicine. as such, individuals are starting to formulate opinions as to whether it works or not. it is perhaps time that these opinions be investigated and confirmed by science.
