in los angeles, being overcome by toxic marijuana fumes at one’s home or business is commonplace. oblivious product consumers often contaminate a significant area which can envelop the elderly, the infirmed and children. occasionally, my offices get the stink so bad from the air conditioning unit that we have to turn it off until the partying ends. yes, with an individual’s highness comes misery for many surrounding others.
a district columbia superior court judge has become a hero with respect to this growing problem. the amazing and wise judge ebony scott ruled that weed coming from a neighbors house constituted a nuisance. her epic line from the case was that “he[the pot smoker] does not possess a license to disrupt the full use and enjoyment of one’s land.” the plaintiff, 75 years of age, who acted as her own lawyer- in pro per, stated “it’s a big win from the public health perspective because it’s setting a precedent for all of the people that are in similar situations.” ms. ippolito-shepherd complained that she faced health issues since the smell of the drug infiltrated her home. nypost.com
this was a win is one for the cause of “reality”. for many decades, there was strong political will to remove cigarette smoking from public places and even private ones. this same zealousness-with respect to marijuana smoke- is absent. perhaps politicians, enjoying the financial contributions from this emerging industry, willingly ignore the problem.
the bottom line is that other people, who do not wish to engage in drug use, should not have to be subjected to its byproduct. it often stinks horribly-like a skunk- and most likely has harmful effects. it is quite depressing that individuals feel comfortable lighting up a joint in public and diminishing other’s enjoyment of the outdoors. at my high school reunion, someone by the hotel pool [not sure if it was an alum] felt compelled to light up and create a cloud of unwanted and uninvited stench for perhaps fifty people who were in the vicinity.
in sum, this marijuana problem is a mere example of a greater problem. like many things in life, humans abuse privileges. in doing so, they exhibit contempt and a lack of respect towards others. love thy neighbor and stranger are foreign words for those pushing progressive agendas. neighbors and strangers do not serve as either the oppressors or the oppressed, rather, they are merely individuals who wish to enjoy living their lives.
be well!!
