The Failure of Post-Modern Medicine: Exhibit 1

a prior post addressed an editorial from a prestigious medical journal, the lancet, with respect to the growing diabetes crisis. in the post-modern world, the terms crisis and emergency are triggers used to exploit public opinion to allow for both outrageous expenditures and restrictive freedoms. during times of crisis and emergency, those in charge increase their power and receive ill gotten wealth. post-modern medicine practices within this construct.

to make this point, i offer myself as exhibit 1, with respect to type ii diabetes.

a few months ago, i tested positive for pre-diabetes with an a1c test of 6.4, and a blood sugar result of 191. on one level, it was baffling. during the period prior to the test, i had actually lost about 10 pounds by managing calories and very little exercise. on the other hand, diabetes runs in my family for multiple generations with a number of individuals being insulin dependent.

as the test was not done in concert with a medical appointment, i independently hit the internet to read and watch materials. while i am very comfortable with scholarly medical writings and lectures, it was a layperson who stuck out with the solution to the problem. mr. dennis pollock’s youtube channel “beat diabetes!” resonated. he is a tremendous communicator who possesses a game plan on how to combat the disease.

essentially, diabetes type ii is a definitional disease. blood glucose levels over 90 days will render a diagnosis. these results come in the form of an a1c test. logically, if someone was able to control their blood glucose levels over a 90 day period, they should be able to impact their diabetes diagnosis. further, since food consumption plays a huge role in blood glucose levels, altering one’s eating can impact one’s diabetic state. thus, going on a diet can alter the course of the disease.

mr. pollock, through his decades of experience, offers a wide range of advice on the how to change one’s diet to become diabetic friendly. a major aspect of eating to beat diabetes is to reduce both carbohydrate and sugar consumption.

this notion explained my problem. my successful weight loss calorie watching diet was unhealthy. while i watched caloric intake, i had no qualms consuming carbs and sugar. mr. pollock opened my mind. as a result, i changed my entire diet.

eliminating the likes of white wheat products, rice, potatoes, and sugar related products, among other things, was part of a three month trek. an unexpected result was further weight loss. my pants started to fall off and i had to tighten my belt by numerous notches. during this time, i never looked at calories on food products. rather, i looked at carbs, sugars and added sugars.

recently, i was tested again. my blood glucose number was normal at 121. my a1c was at the mid-rage of normal at 5.1. without any medical intervention, my numbers reversed. there was no medical expense incurred other than lab testing.

in essence, proper education, executing the plan, and sticking to it resulted in reversing my diabetic state. this reversal, however, requires an ongoing commitment towards maintaining a low carb/ low sugar diet.

on the mayo clinic website, there is the following statement: “there’s no cure for type 2 diabetes. losing weight, eating well and exercising can help manage the disease. if diet and exercise aren’t enough to control blood sugar, diabetes medications or insulin therapy may be recommended.” [emphasis added] mayoclinic

does a diet of bananas, mangoes, raisins, organic honey and granola described an eating well diet? if you are diabetic, consuming these food courses, if you are avoiding carbs and sugars, are actually unhealthy.

along time ago, michael j fox’s movie doc hollywood had a scene in which an old- time doctor cured a child who was in extreme distress with a can of coca cola. the powerful message was that not all medicine requires extreme expenditures. some aspects of care involve minimal cost. a low carb/low sugar diet is cheap medicine. while it may be more costly than a traditional diet, it certainly is a better alternative than a life of endless testing and medications.

as such, if the medicine profession truly wished to heal diabetic patients, they should take the time and watch the mastery of mr. dennis pollock. i offer my test results as exhibit 1 as to the fact that he has a valid formula to combat diabetes.

be well!!
