a particular english language two word phrase scares even the biggest and baddest. no slasher movie evokes the same horror as when these words are thrown upon a person. some spend their entire lives avoiding or denying this semblance of letters. for others, these words are imposed.
salty drops of reality often drip down convicted criminal’s faces when a judge delivers their sentence- their payment for the crime’s societal cost. overwhelming emotions can take place “personal responsibility” finally takes hold.
“personal responsibility” is the most troublesome enligh language phrase. it is the mirror we look into and realize that we are not the fairest individual of them all. it is that inner nagging feeling that we experience hearing expressions of anger or disappointment from parents, siblings, spouses, children, teachers, employers, co-workers, and customers.
“person responsibilty”, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. taking care of one’s business can be satisfying. a true pride is ascertained via accomplishment and achievement. anything from being a parent to simply being a person living out their moral life can bring rise to a rewarded sense.
to some degree, religion injects itself into “personal responsibility”. within the bible, there are various commandments that include the word either the word “you” or in other terms directs an individual to act. a well known passage is v’ahavta, beginning at deuteronomy 6:5, explicitly contains edicts: you shall teach, you shall bind, and you shall inscribe are offered. responsibility is imposed upon one’s mind, a physical act, and even in a physical structure.
some religiously observant individuals derive self satisfaction knowing that they have taken the responsibility to act in accordance with scriptural dictates. these dictates bring with them many positive directives towards an individual’s conduct.
in a broader sense, people on top of their “personal responsibility” matters can become unburdened; they experience both freedom and satisfaction.
in the united states, “personal responsibility” is a problematic. “personal responsibility” often leads to success. with success, the socialist dictates of oppressed and oppressor are raised. those who achieve success through “personal responsibility” are targeted as the oppressors with those falling short in accountability being deemed the oppressed. measures are imposed to address this socialistic imbalance. recently, a school district pushed back a graduation ceremony in an effort to allow more students to graduate. this was to be achieved by “make up” work or classes.
each and every individual has potential. this potential is often reached by accepting and acting upon one’s “personal responsibility”.
in the end, “personal responsibility” can take individuals to achievement. great achievement can bring additional responsibilities. when responsibilities become increasingly large, to maintain one’s personal responsibility, the concept of “delegation” comes into play. this subject, however, shall be subject of another post.
be well!!
