Sapiens, A Decade Later Perspective

ten years have passed since the best seller, sapiens, a brief history of humankind, by author yuval harari was published. harari’s landmark book describes how sapiens’ 70,000 years of activity has re-shaped the planet. he describes how human’s capability to organize, and create useful fiction enabled the species to progress past other animals, including neanderthals. . he likewise discusses weighs the costs and benefits in this progress. further, he discusses belief systems and forms of government that continued humanity’s march through time.

in the last decade since the best seller’s publication, has there been anything worthy of adding to the history of humankind? is this relatively short period of time, an approximate .00014 percent, remarkable?

since 2013, the following are my observations of historical changes.

the rise of sexual orientation equality: in prior decades before the legalization of same sex marriage, the term “alternative” lifestyle described anything beyond non-traditional male female relationships. with legality, arguably there is sexual orientation equality- all lifestyles now have the same level of import. traditional male-female relationships have diminished value.

the rise of the “expert” versus “science”: recently, one expert declared himself “the science”. with this, a major blow occurred with respect to the “scientific method.” major world decisions based upon these “so called” experts can be viewed as the adoption of an unsustainable fiction. “expert”, as a term, is truly a fiction. there is no true criteria for that label. in science, where there are many pursuing the truth within the scientific method, one’s moment on the pantheon can be short lived. in this expert atmosphere, individuals, who are arguably a greater expert in the particular field, are likely to be dismissed for their differing expertise.

the rise of “bogus” academia: similar to bogus news stories which, in the past, were, and still are, used to promote political or social agendas, increasingly policy makers are embracing severely flawed studies to implement wide-ranging policies.

the rise of man-made worldwide biological/economic warfare: covid-19- with the strong indications of being laboratory created- essentially was an intended redux of the spanish influenza. the event, in a large part, shaped the world: business, education, and social interaction has been reshaped by the event.

the rise of the emergency power democracy: with covid-19, federal and local states embraced emergency powers to re-shape the world for which their populace lived. extreme measures were implemented with to limit speech, the ability to leave one’s residence, the ability to practice one’s religion, study, work, shop, and eat were curtailed. likewise, one’s right to seek redress from government oppression was suppressed. access to one’s finances were curtailed.

the rise of bold lies: dishonesty has reached a point at which authorities feel comfortable lying to the public with impunity.

the rise of artificial intelligence: the advances has reached a point at which a large number of jobs are soon to be replaced. technology’s ability to replace humans is becoming more affordable.

in sum, are these items, given time, noteworthy? are there other developments or events in the last ten years that will become part of history? if so, please place them in the comments.

be well!!
