around the world, medical schools may be teaching doctors to behave like petulant children. they now are the oppressed. the days of god-complexed physicians is rapidly being supplanted with something mere mortal.
this phenomena is so apparent that the profession- once a collection of deities holding others’ lives in the balance-are being taught to view human beings as something less than human. patients- the sick and those in need of medical attention- are to serve as pawns in the grand chess match of the right versus the left. with socialism, of course, whenever the left is not in control, they- the oppressed- believe that they have free reign to act out with any means possible. patients become transformed into ammunition in the war politik.
in israel, a duly elected government is in the process of enacting judicial reform legislation. this legislation is wildly unpopular by the left. leftist doctors- ready to burn their white coats and stethoscopes- revealed their dark side . according to a timesofisrael report, “doctors opposed to the government’s judicial overhaul efforts announced monday that they would not come in to work if the government refuses to abide by a potential high court of Justice ruling against its legislative push.” further, they noted that “we are declaring that in the case of a constitutional crisis, we will be forced to not report for duty until the government returns to respecting supreme court rulings.”
in essence, leftist combatants are terrorist holding their patients hostage. all patients serviced by these doctors are possible casualties in this perverse war. if these leftist doctors act out, body bags will be filled with patients deprived of life saving medications and treatment. the hospital and medical centers will be a battlefields filled with patients either in pain and infirmed. medic! medic! if you look to the left, one will not be found.
the game of oppressor and oppressed fails to accept that the realities that certain members of society accept bigger roles than their self interest. doctors, police officers and firefighters take on these higher roles as first responders. in exchange for their efforts, societies reward them with honor and benefits.
in sum, it appears that the field of medicine must devote itself to embracing the spirit of past physicians. we must pray that our future doctors adopt the beliefs of the great physician maimonides. he-a great civic leader and scholar as well- spent his time treating the most powerful and perhaps the most indulgent in egypt. certainly, he understood how a doctor should conduct themselves during dystopian times.
