before the horrible news came out about hamas’ invasion of israel, i had been reading the first book of the maccabees.
the ancient text, which is not part of the hebrew bible, details the judean-greeek conflict. the book chronicles enemies of the jews taking advantage of religious observance and commencing attacks on the sabbath. maccabees 1:2:35, 1:9:43. the book details how leaders’ acts of deception to gain advantage. maccabees 1:7:26-28. the books details a divided judean society in which one’s dedication to the covenant-jewish values- was a societal dividing line. maccabees 1:2:64. additionally, the text tells of alliances building. (note: no irony is lost on the fact that the hasmoneans- the maccabees- engaged in forming a pact with rome. maccabees 1:8:20 as history unfolds, this very rome would come to occupy the judea and engage in years of brutal conflict with the residents. during their occupation, rome would destroy the jewish people’s second temple.)
perhaps the biggest take from the book of maccabees is that the story upon which the chanukah celebration commemorates- the rededication of the temple after greek desecration-takes place early on in the historical narrative. maccabees, 1:4:56. thus, despite a moment of reprieve, conflict, political intrigue, violence, and death continued over the additional twelve chapters.
thus, taking into past history, this recent hamas-israel conflict is a testament as to how history carries with it recurring themes. with the current conflict, the simchat torah-sabbath invasion by the modern state of israel’s enemy hamas is one taken out from an ancient playbook. further, the duplicitous nature of political powers affecting the region is present.
united states president joseph biden, either intentionally or unintentionally, has been proven to be the messenger of chaos to the region. during his presidency, and during his time as vice-president in the obama administration, he has engaged in messaging to israel’s enemies that “uncle joe” has their back. during mr. biden’s time in the executive office, iran has received pallets of cash which most likely funded terrorism operations throughout the middle-east. more recently, “uncle joe” handed iran an additional six billion. further, he rejoined unesco and engaged in other activities that sent the message to organizations such as hamas that uncle joe has their back. breitbart.com certainly, in this most recent moment of conflict, i would not doubt that uncle joe’s team is already planning funding for all of the gazans impacted. uncle joe’s team’s office of palestinian affairs was already blasted for tweeted and deleted that essentially israel should stand down with respect to the conflict and not in essence not defend itself.
this conflict- most of all- exposed the sickness and questionable thought on the left. this includes the “jewish left” that both elected and ardently support mr. biden. one cannot deny that the biden administration has made the middle east into an area more infested with danger and terrorism. he, again, has communicated- either intentionally or unintentionally- to israel’s enemies that he has their back. he, along with the united states leftist jews have promoted opposition to the israeli government’s attempt at judicial reform legislation. echoes of desperate cries of “kids in cages” ring through my mind as i witness the leftist drama playbook in full operation. certainly, this oscar-level political acting has sent a message to israel’s enemies. these enemies appreciated that the internal political strife created an opportunity to strike. as such, i contend that american jewish leftists deserve some of credit for this recent round of middle east bloodshed.
how can i make this assertion? harvard constitution law professor laurence tribe, a once brilliant man, tweeted out from the leftist playbook something so vile that even leftists took offense to it. mr. tribe posted the question “is netanyahu wagging the dog of war to take attention away from his own war on the independent judiciary? can anyone put that past him?” foxnews.com mr. tribe, since his post, deleted this post and professed ignorance. he, however, is one of the brilliant fools on the left and he, i contend, is a fool for deleting his post. leftism, for those who are unaware, is entirely reactionary and emotional. facts, correctness or morality does not matter. if you want to truly offer the truth of your belief system, then mr. tribe stand by your post. the truth is irrelevant. facts don’t matter.
in sum, this horrible moment in time is a mere chapter of many that will unfold over time. sadly, individuals and families are suffering. as world history proves, there will be more atrocities and more deaths. further, as this episode illustrates, there will be more opportunities to prove the misguidedness of leftism. leftism cam be a a source of evil. mr. tribe will have more opportunities to make outrageous opinions that shock the conscience of reasonable human beings. thus, the history lesson that is being drawn from this recent conflict is that we all are educated as to leftism’s golden rule, “when in the wrong, blame others.”
be well!!
