Media and Social Media Creators constantly generate “click bait.” Stats are valued over quality content; with this, readers are left with time-consuming content. Heaped among the links to stories of the Kardashians, Markles, & Swifts is surprisingly Ten Commandments-related content. Yes, emotional evoking morality tales serve as “click bait.” Creators are well aware “morality tales” generate traffic. Thus, as you go through various sites, articles such as idolatry, cult practices, crime, family relations, adultery, dishonesty, materialism and the State of Israel will pop up.
Recently, the Dailymail.com offered up a classic Ten Commandments’ “click bait” story. The article reported on an adult who directed a 5-7 year-old child to steal a package from someone’s front porch. The horrifying scene- caught on ring camera- included the ecstatic child shouting out “I got it! I got it!”
The story, as presented, is meaningless “click bait.” It serves to arouse the reader with anger. Anger can be mental caffeine. With this emotion, the heart pumps faster and the blood starts flowing. Anger can be addicting; our society has people who are labled as rageoholics. Other than reminding us of how depraved our society can be and to draw emotional fro it, there articles are worthless. They do not take the deep dive into the issue.
If this story was truly with meaning, there should have been an interview with an official from the State’s Child Protective Services. The question should have been raised as to “what should happen to this child if it was found out that criminal mastermind was in fact the child’s parent?” Does the CPS consider “morality” when confronted with such a parent? Or, does CPS operate another another agenda? Recent stories have revealed that the CPS in some states are more concerned with advancing immoral agendas versus family values.
In the present story’s instance, this child is being actually endangered by the parent. Let alone learning poor morals, this child could have been killed or injured during the commission of the theft. Certainly, this act should be considered as heinous as a situation in which a child has expressed suicidal ideation. In instances of children who have suicidal ideation or are suicidal, the CPS has acted against parents even though no parental misconduct has been alleged.
In sum, should either the Media or Social Media get credit for presenting moral issues in their content? My answer is no. Rather, they are simply people who have just gone fishing.
Be well!!

The footage was taken by a Ring doorbell camera in Miami on Monday. While the child has not been identified, police believe they may be as young as five.
The package contained clothing that the victim claimed was valued at $40.
Police are now hunting for the woman who was filmed with the child.

According to Captain Freddy Cruz of the Miami Police Department, the theft took place in Miami’s Silver Bluff neighborhood.
‘We don’t know if the child even knew what he or she was doing,’ he said in an Instagram video posted on February 1.
Cruz also indicated that Miami Police Officers do not know if the adult is a parent or guardian.
Officers are now requesting the public’s help in identifying the adult in the Ring doorbell camera.
‘This person will be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possibly other charges,’ Cruz stated.
The victim, who asked Local 10 to be identified as Amelia, said that the adult in the video ‘really should be ashamed’ of her actions.

This porch pirate theft was not the first to occur in Florida.
A 32-year-old woman was arrested in December after surveillance footage caught her stealing Amazon packages from a porch in winter haven.
She was booked at the Polk County Sherriff’s Office on charges of grand theft, felony petit theft, and two counts of burglary of a dwelling.
Individuals who have information on the porch pirate theft are asked to call Police Non-Emergency at (305) 579-6111 or Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
All of the callers will remain anonymous.
