in hebrew school in the united states, we were taught that some of israel’s best citizens are not jewish. the israeli druze community is an integral part of the fabric of the country. they are a non-jewish arab community within israel. they serve in the military with distinction. now, a druze has become israel’s best.
karawan halabi, a druze and biomedical engineering student, made history with a record breaking 1000 meter run. what makes it remarkable is that she broke a 25 year record. she is also the first druze to break a record. she now is in pursuit of her olympic dreams. timesofisrael.com
academically, she is tough competition as well. she attends one of the middle east’s top academic institutions.
ms. halabi is truly a great role model for her country.
