anthony robbins’ awaken the giant within profoundly changed my life. to be a success in the game of life, one not only needs to have goals, they also need a strategy to accomplish them. awaken the giant within integrates goal setting with goal completion.
many people are full of regrets; i always hear more “i could have”, “i should have” and “i didn’t” than i hear about successes. goal setting requires thought and planning; people often never truly set goals; rather, they wish or fantasize about them. success in life, for many, requires a methodology. mr. robbins’ awaken the giant provides the structure for people to develop attainable goals and implement the framework to reach them. he takes almost a daily step-by-step approach toward goal accomplishment; every day there should be some progress. further, once achievable goals are completed, the process is then to be repeated. achieving success is just like washing one’s hair: shampoo, rinse and repeat. with each repetition, positive progress is made. success is built by persistence.
in the torah shoftim, one could envision mr. robbins consulting with the master of the universe. in this instance, the goal of making the children of israel into a great nation required leadership. within this goal, there would be the need to have great leadership. with this, the question for the master of the universe was “how can i guarantee that the leaders will meet my vision?”
in shoftim, the goal planning was implemented. the ruler of this nation, a king, had duties imposed… “and it will be, when he sits upon his royal throne, that he shall write for himself two copies of this torah on a scroll from [that torah which is] before the levitic kohanim.” deuteronomy 17:18. further, in deuteronomy 17:19, it was further required… “and it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may fear the lord, his god, to keep all the words of this torah and there statutes, to perform them.”
in sum, this torah portion illustrates both goal implementation. in order to create a great nation, the torah- a book of instruction- was necessary. the instructions, however, without implementation, would not be a success. as such, a solution was need to make sure that the nation’s leadership was fully aware of the plan and was to implement it. thus, the writing of the instructions and the review of the instructions on a daily basis to both understand them and appreciate came about. likewise, in reading the torah, one would have an appreciation of the almighty’s abilities. as such, any king would appreciate that there was truly a “giant” within the grand scheme of things.
be well!!
