Like a plastic bag drifting through the wind, this Blog goes in many places and directions. Thus, I would like to address the recent ongoing themes.
In current affairs, Louisiana’s Ten Commandments Law requiring the Decalogue’s posting in public school classrooms is a natural for the blog. While I am a lawyer who has won an American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law was a Teacher’s Assistant for that law school class, my interest is not in the legality of the provision but rather the Commandments’ secular value.
My postings discuss both the notion of a child having a “moral code” and the concept of “governance.” The Commandments are about how both a family and a mixed multitude of people got together to agree to abide laws and form a government. Further, they bring forth the idea of justice administration; about the qualities of individuals who act as judges.
For satire, my assault on sports continued. This year, I revealed “dogwashing”. The media is failing to disclose the sex of dogs who compete in Agility contests. This is suprising as both female trainers and competitors in the field have enjoyed tremendous success against the opposite sex. This, however, is not celebrated. Why?
For education, I continue to post Commandments’ related material with respect to scripture. This exploration is for the purposes of gaining understanding of how people in the past valued and understood the Commandments. Thus, I have taken an approach of looking at the world through the lense of pre-Mt. Sinai and post Mt. Sinai. The results are quite revealing. Within this, I post on the weekly Torah portion and try to connect it to the Commandments.
