Before I embarked on the Ten Commandments Project, reading Michael Walzer’s Exodus and Revolution would provided context as to how the Torah shaped Western Civilization’s Politics. Walzer’s text details how the Exodus narrative influenced the entire spectrum of political thought.
Mr. Walzer frames the Exodus into components- Bondage, the Wilderness, the Covenant and the Promised Land. While walking through his framing of the story, he details how the various components of Exodus influenced political thinkers and movements.
He notes: “[w]e can think of the Exodus as an example of what is today called “national liberation.” The people as a whole are enslaved and then the people as a whole are delivered.” Exodus and Revolution at Page 32.
