The Keys To Going Postal in February

Damn my keyboard!

Software gremlins, spellcheck, auto-fill, failure to save, and utter carelessness enrages me. No matter what, every post is stained with a mistake, a typo, a missed word, or an inappropriate one. Sometimes you do things out of joy and not perfection. Bull puckey!

“Keys” are needed to address the technological difficulties of word craft. Utilizing the combination of a phone, a tablet, and a computer to write a document requires a tactical methodology. Who doesn’t make a quick edit on their cell phone?

Some of these keys are likely paying attention (coffee), saving your work- and saving it again (a second cup) and re-reading your final re-reading (an espresso shot.)

Mr. Stephen Wilber, however, has the real keys to writing. His Keys to Great Writing is perhaps the best practical book written for improving one’s writing.

His text makes you work on particulars. Within the chapters, he often brings up past keys into newer topics. This keeps the reader mindful of continually integrating the concepts. That’s what’s great about the book; he works you.

In this post, I will only recommend the book. It is a disservice to summarize his thoughts and ideas. It is best personally read.

Great Writing is like eating great sushi. You are forever ruined. After experiencing Sasabune, Costco sushi will never be satisfying. Mr. Wilber’s book is problematic in the same vein. Once applying the keys towards elevating one’s writing, there is no going back to the old slop. My childish social media comments now need revisions. My acerbic text messages need edits. Some things I write are simply deleted.

The keys! It’s the keys! Ouch! I went (sort of) postal! Then, …I edited it.

The February Posts

February’s mindset was fulfillment. The blog’s 2025 goals were to met head on.

Healthcare will likely remain a hot topic during Luigi Mangione’s criminal proceedings. Thus, it is the time to offer up a quite different view of the system.

Gaming The System reveals that all shareholders in the health care industry is culpable for its perceived failures. The delays, denials and excessive costs are in part due to the shareholder abuses. This, as the post shows, includes the patients.

Getting concepts off the ground floor is a difficult task. The Torah Portion Bechlach tackles the Sabbath becoming an institution.

Universal Health Care, for some, constitutes one of the largest power grabs in history. Where there is power, there is socialism. I have had conversations with a doctor when they were attending Harvard Medical School. You would be surprised as to what they are being taught. It is not medicine.

Legal analysis is complex. When two laws collide, how should the outcome be determined. This post explores the concept of legal supremacy within the Torah.

Yonatan Adler, The Origins of Judaism author, suggested that the Torah was used as a foundational document. He opined that the Hasmoneans may have used it in a manner akin to the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

From a secular standpoint, the Ten Commandments and Torah’s political implications are worthy of study. The Hebrew Bible’s discussion of Monarchy makes excellent classroom material.

The latest Grammy/Superbowl antics of Kanye West inspired this post. With his long career, he has had moments in which he had been embraced and adored. Right wingers liked him when he met President Trump. Christians liked him when he did his Sunday Service. In light of his recent meltdown, how should he be viewed?

As a writer sometimes we have bits and pieces of stories or topics. Sometimes, they can be cobbled together. My fascination with poverty and a dinner with Marina Sirtis was a vehicle to address a topic. It is my longstanding skepticism of a utopian future.

2025’s project was to review the the Hebrew Bible’s Writings section with a Ten Commandments’ standpoint. The Book of Ruth beautifully tackles matters in the periphery of the Decalogue. At Mt. Sinai, others stood with the Children of Israel to receive the Commandments. What was their role? Their thoughts?

Catch titles are great. “Intelligent Design” is a hot button phrase for creationism. I thought using it for something completely different was a great ploy.

Be well!!
