The Psychic Cat is not a numbers cruncher. The feline goes by feel. Observation combined with chess move- like- implications helps generate purrrfect prognostications. The Post “Internet Search Engine R.I.P. 2024” was statistically confirmed.
Using an AI search, the Psychic Cat got the statistical data. The feline had previously read the data from an actual article. The stat was that Google’s share of web searches dipped below 90 percent for the first time in a decade. The citation will be not offered up. Why bother? There is some much grooming to be done! The AI was a purrrfect cheat for this post. Let’s face it, the Cat has been things to do like catch some rays by a window.
Generational Shift
Each human generation is subject to new generations of software and programs. The Psychic Cat, with its nine lives, has been through many word processing programs: Xywrite, Wordstar and now Microsoft Word. The Cat’s favorite was, however, was WordPurrrfect!
The same phenomena is true with internet access. The Google generation has essentially stopped growing and the CHATGPT generation is emerging. Further, most search engines offer up their AI answers in lieu of search results. The AI answers are the cap-nip-like;. A short-lived high with the answer and crash. It is far better than doing the heavy lifting of going through various sites to get actual cites.
The Consequences
With AI being dominant in delivering results, creators will be increasing hesitant about participating on the internet. Some of the Ten Commandments‘ Project’s content is AI reference worthy. CHATGPT has used it. How many individuals did not click through to the site is a mystery. There have been some. If the internet is AI’s source of information, the Human intellectual tap will be reduced to a drip.
Further, AI will likely find older AI produced content to draw from to provide answers. It is a likelyhood that AI cycling could occur. Additionally, human content could become devalued. AI may prefer other older AI content to give the best AI answer.
The Emerging Ignorance Culture?
Since answers are so readily available, people may become so lazy that they no longer search. Answers may no longer be important. Why bother using AI to get an answer? After all, they know if they really wanted to know something, they could do the AI search. Knowing that the information is readily available may make people less desirous of getting information. In essence, there is no need to feed the brain with valuable information.
The Psychic Cat recently witnessed this on a podcast. One podcaster was unsure over a particular fact. At that moment, in real time, she embraced her ignorance and did not seek the answer. At that moment, she was sitting in front of her sticky decorated laptop computer. What are those devices for, watching tiktok videos or serving as a security blankie? This individual felt way too comfortable moving forward in ignorance rather than taking 20 seconds to get the AI answer.
Is there an increasing trend to be comfortable with being ignorant?
The Psychic Cat still loves to search things out on the internet. A lot of times, however, it is to clarify an existing fact. The danger with the youth today could be that they have no facts that they need to reference. Rather, they are full of narratives and slogans. Being factually correct is not something that one needs to get clicks or draw attention. One can generate a lot of eyeballs or clicks by being ignorant.
CONCLUSION
The Psychic Cat is doubling down on its purrrect prediction. The next generation will use AI to write their reports, do their homework, and take their tests. This generation, however, will likely abandon AI for the purposes of improving upon their knowledge base. Knowing that they could get the right answer is good enough to satisfy their ego.
