Rules are Made for a Reason

humanity makes rules for a reason. when society recognizes an action to be detrimental for their society, they take the measure of enacting a law or rule to prevent or discourage that activity. in sum, rules and laws tell us about humanity’s capacity to engage in immoral or harmful acts.

taking this thesis, let us apply it to the ten commandments. what does the ten commandments tell us about humanity and humanity’s capacity to engage in immoral or harmful acts.

one, we are capable of rejecting an ultimate authority. we are capable of engaging in recognizing multiple gods or idols. for example, we may view a dynamic human in god-like fashion. we are forgetful of who redeems. we forget those who perform good or great deeds on our behalf.

be well!
