this is my personal choice of the most important bible passage.
genesis 3:17, “cursed be the ground for your sake; with toil shall you eat of it all the days of your life. and it will cause thorns and thistles to grow for you, and you shall eat the herbs of the field. with the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground, for you were taken therefrom, for dust you are, and to dust you will return.”
this passage addresses the most realistic expectation of life: first, life will be difficult, second, the continuous obligation to work, third, the reality that the our lack of permanence.
this passage is all about perspective. if the passage is base for life’s existence, any ease in our existence is wonderful.
thus, if you have worked and can afford to purchase food for an extended period of time, it is a moment of joy. if you have a job that you love, it is a moment of joy. if you have some wonderful moments where you don’t have to struggle, they are moments of joy.
thus, with this perspective, one can find happiness. with a perspective based upon difficulty, any moment of ease is exuberant.
be well!!
