before this discussion, i am providing you a description of munchausen syndrome by proxy from the michigan health system.
“munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) is a mental health problem in which a caregiver makes up or causes an illness or injury in a person under his or her care, such as a child, an elderly adult, or a person who has a disability. because vulnerable people are the victims, MSBP is a form of child abuse or elder abuse.
The caregiver with MSBP may:
- lie about the child’s symptoms.
- change test results to make a child appear to be ill.
- physically harm the child to produce symptoms.
victims are most often small children. they may get painful medical tests they don’t need. they may even become seriously ill or injured or may die because of the actions of the caregiver.
children who are victims of MSBP can have lifelong physical and emotional problems and may have munchausen syndrome as adults. this is a disorder in which a person causes or falsely reports his or her own symptoms.” uofmhealth.org
a judge in texas, amy clark meachum, made a controversial decision to block an investigation into parents giving their children puberty blocking drugs to their child. dailymail.com
this was in response to their governor’s order to have child welfare agency to probe parents who allow their children to undergo sex change procedures.
at this point, i will offer you my personal bias. any decision to impact one’s ability to reproduce should be taken at the highest level of scrutiny by any court. my personal bias extends to animals as well. i am not a fan of spaying or neutering. the words of genesis “be fruitful and multiply” are profound and with meaning.
msbp’s description comes very close to what is happening with parents who are having their minor children engage in sex transition procedures. this begs the question, are these parents suffering from the msbp mental disorder? is there decision to have their children engage in these procedures prior to them becoming adults a form of child abuse? if a judge, such as judge meachum protects parents engaging in this activity, is she not enabling child abuse? is this judge’s political correctness in essence munchausen syndrome by jurisprudence?
the reality of this situation is that there is “science” to suggest that parent’s mental illness may be in play with respect to this issue. thus, it is important, in this circumstance, protect the children from child abuse and conduct an investigation.
in sum, there is an appropriate time and a place for someone to make their personal decision about their life and about their ability to reproduce. for many, it is when they become an adult. these decisions should not be made by a mentally ill parent whose disease includes harming their children. in this circumstance, it is important the government protect the children. this issue of an elective alteration of one’s sex should not be based upon one’s sense of political correctness.
