A Big Time Move: A Ten Commandments’ Tale

Posted bybiblelifestudiesJune 19, 2022Posted inabraham, father, football, khari lewis, leaders, leadership, Uncategorized, wordsTags:calling, father, football, khari lewis

And the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth…”

genesis 12:1

some people have a higher calling. abraham got a call leave his home and to become a great nation. moses got a call. he was told to free the hebrew slaves in egypt. mr. khari willis got a call. at 26, he is leaving the national football league and millions of dollars for his calling.

in his words:

“with much prayer and deliberation, i have elected to officially retire from the nfl as i endeavor to devote the remainder of my life to the further advancement of the gospel of jesus christ. i thank all of my family, friends and those who have supported me on this journey thus far and i look forward to your continued support through the next phase of my life. i am both humbled and excited to pursue the holy call that god has for my life which brings me much joy and purpose.” thank you all for your support over the years…” kansascity.com

the nfl currently has a huge public relations problem. they have a star quarter back for whom many have labeled as a “sexual predator. ” they had an up and coming wide receiver who is being prosecuted for the horrifying death of a woman and her dog in a car accident. he is accused of both being intoxicated and driving at at extremely high rate of speed in the accident which caused a woman and her pet to be consumed in flames thus, mr. willis’ decision to leave the league is likely the best news off of the field that the league could imagine. an individual who is striking out into the world to do good.

mr. lewis’ father’s days will always be special. in his rookie year, his twin sons were born, he proved his dedication as a father. he spent his rookie season sleeping with his children at the peyton manning children’s hospital. his sons were born premature and were on ventilators and breathing tubes. he spent four months with his children at the hospital until they recovered. sportscasting.com

in sum, callings can be challenging. mr. lewis has proven himself academically, athletically and as a parent already. his success in his calling may simply be a matter of time rather than a measure of his ability. unlike mr. lewis, not many have the courage or faithto leave everything behind.

be well!!
